Hand Forging Certification Program

Service Description

The certification program is an 80-hour accelerated apprenticeship program broken down into 4x 20-hour levels. Students are taught at a faster pace and are given an extensive background and history of the following: · Blacksmithing · Metallurgy · Material Sciences · Industry Mathematics This program was created to teach students the importance of hand skills within Blacksmithing rather than relying on machinery to complete projects and tasks. Hand skills are extremely important within traditional blacksmithing. Each level will build on the previous one, adding more advanced skills and knowledge to the student’s repertoire; students will be shown basic skills such as stick welding, forge welding and how to run a coal forge and basic shop safety. Upon completion of each level, students will receive a signed certificate stating which level they completed and any additional skills that may have been taught during the level – such as power tool safety, tool maintenance and similar skills. Programs are open to all skill and experience levels and are available for ages 10+. Certificates can and have been used towards career training, job advancement and high school credits for chemistry, mathematics and metal shop as BC Curriculum is followed for grades 10 and 11.
